Despite the fact that Game has most, if not all, of the components that are required in order to make a good entertainer, it is missing something that would make it a good movie. In other words, it lacks a soul. The story feels too 'perfect' - over-rehearsed, like the writers flipped through every 'how to make a mystery thriller' book out there and rehashed all that they had learned without having a reason to tell this story in the first place.

So, even though this movie was surprisingly easy to take seriously (there is minimal melodrama and the two songs that are in it aren't cheesy, though one of them is a case of a writing shortcut (it's supposed to depict the development of love between two characters)), it was a fight for me to sit through it because it was so slow-paced. I almost wished that Karan Johar or some other mediocre director had made the movie instead because it nearly put me to sleep in the second half.

The characters aren't interesting because you only see the side of them that is required in order to move ahead with the story. And the few characters whose personalities shine through, like Abhishek's character, are cheaply used to make the viewer sympathize with them. Plus, you have the usual clichés, such as a man who wants revenge for the sake of his daughter who was taken from him, and the way he goes about getting that revenge.

You have a group of people comprised of a Bollywood actor (Jimmy Shergill), a journalist (Shahana Goswami), a politician (Boman Irani), and Abhishek's character (I forgot what he was), and they are all invited to a rich stranger (Anupam Kher)'s mansion. Of course, not all is as it seems and it soon becomes a game of Clue for the viewer to figure out who is the culprit behind all that happens from here on in. Kangana Ranaut is in about half of the movie, but her role bears almost no significance to the story. In regards to the performances, the actors manage to work well with what they're given. They're all surprisingly restrained, even Boman Irani...kind of. Although I guess his overacting is acceptable here, when considering the stress his character experiences. There is little to no chemistry between the cast, however.

Game relies on its plot twists as shock value to keep the viewer watching. I can't say if the twists were stupid, but I found it hard to care as the characters have so little depth. Honestly, the only thing this movie has going for it is that it isn't outright ridiculous like a lot of what Bollywood has to offer.

Game isn't a bad movie. It's just incredibly bland and generic. This was probably the closest I've seen Abhishek Bachchan come to giving a decent performance, though. Sadly, all of the actors' efforts come to a waste in this movie.
